Filing for Office

The City of Oakdale is governed by a mayor and four council members. Each serves "at large" as opposed to being assigned to districts, wards, or areas. Each elected term runs four years and begins in January following the election held the past November. The salary of the Mayor of the City is $1,000 per month, and the salary for each council member is $800 per month.

Persons interested in running for office need to meet the following criteria:

  • Be at least 21 years of age.
  • Maintained residency in Oakdale for at least 30 days prior to the General Election.
  • Have not filed for any other office for that year’s elections.

Filing for Candidacy

The filing period for 2026 is July 14 to July 28  at 5 PM for one Mayor seat and two Council Member seats.

  • Apply in person at Oakdale City Hall, 1584 Hadley Avenue N, during regular office hours during the established filing period. 
  • Proof of residence required when filing for candidacy.
  • Filing fee is $5 (cash or check).
