Flashlight Pumpkin Hunt

Flashlight Pumpkin Hunt

Thursday, October 24 | 7 – 8:30 PM | Discovery Center

Join us at the Oakdale Nature Preserve as we search for pumpkins under the stars. After the hunt enjoy chilling refreshments, family DJ, bonfire, spooky entertainment, and ghoulish games. Come in costume if you like and don't forget your flashlight! $12 per child, parents attend free!
All participants receive a glow necklace upon check-in!

Curious Critters Club (Ages 3 to 6)

Select Friday mornings | 9:30 – 11 AM | Discovery Center

Children participate in discussions, play games, watch DVDs, and create projects. Register one week prior to class. $8 per class.

"Insects" Story Time for Preschoolers

Wednesday, October 30 | 10:30 AM | Discovery Center

Join a librarian from the Oakdale Library for a special preschool story time! We will have fun talking, singing, reading, writing, and playing together.  We will focus on concepts such as counting, colors, sharing, emotions, patterns, and the alphabet. A simple craft will follow.  A free program recommended for developmental ages 0 to 5 and their grown-ups. Please call 651-747-3860 to reserve your spot! Free.

Indoor Youth Tennis Lessons (Ages 8 to 12)

Mondays, November 11 through December 16 ( No class 12/9) | Ages 4 to 7 at 6 – 6:45 PM | Ages 8 to 12 at 7 – 7:45 PM  |  Discovery Center
Learn basic fundamentals of tennis in this fun class! Skills taught include grip, stance, swing, and more in a fun and safe learning environment. We use USTA approved tennis equipment designed for youth tennis. If you have your own racquet, please bring it along each week. Oakdale Recreation has a few to loan each night. Instructor: Dan Stumpf is North High School girl's tennis coach and Hill Murray boy's. $35.

Pumpkin Carving Contest

Drop off your pumpkin during the Discovery Center's open hours October 19 - 23 | Discovery Center

Calling all pumpkin carvers! The Pumpkin Carving Contest is open to families or individuals of all ages/skill levels. All entries must be family friendly. The pumpkins will be displayed at the Flashlight Pumpkin Hunt and attendees will vote for the winners.
Prizes will be awarded to winners in each of three categories; Best, Spookiest, and Bumpkin Pumpkin (entry by ages 12 and under).

Farmers Market - Last Date

Wednesday, October 2 | 2 - 6 PM | City Hall Parking Lot

Purchase locally grown products that promote healthy lifestyles, while sustaining local agriculture at the Oakdale Farmers Market. Pick up a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, a bouquet of flowers, a loaf of bread, dessert, and so much more! Check out the Community Booth to see what is happening locally, and enter your name for a chance to win the Vendors Variety Gift Basket. This is the vendors' way of saying thank you for supporting the community and local businesses.


ViniYoga is a therapeutic style of yoga which adapts to the needs of each student. Classes are held in a serene setting overlooking the beautiful nature preserve and include a blend of gentle yoga postures, breathing, and simple meditations.  Viniyoga helps the body build strength and flexibility while remaining steady and comfortable.
Beginners are welcome as are those who have practiced yoga before: all students are encouraged to move at their own pace. Please wear comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat.  Instructor:  Jen Brandt, Owner and Yoga Therapist at Body & Mind Yoga Therapy.

Yoga Therapy for Better Sleep

Sundays, Oct 6, 13, 27, Nov 3, 10, 17, 24, Dec 1 (No class 10/20) | 6 – 7:30 PM | Discovery Center
Sleep is essential for good health. If you have trouble falling asleep or staying asleep there are lots of yoga tools that can help. In this 8-week series we will learn gentle yoga movements, calming breathing techniques, and peaceful meditations to help your body relax and digest the day, allowing you to get a more restful night’s sleep. Each class will also include Ayurvedic diet and lifestyle tips to support an evening routine that will lead to better rest. Taught by Jennifer Brandt, Yoga Therapist and Ayurvedic Yoga Specialist.
$85 for the session.


Wellness 50+: Living Well with Chronic Conditions

Tuesdays, October 22 – November 26 | 6 – 8:30 PM | Discovery Center
Living Well is a group-based workshop that helps people with chronic conditions - such as diabetes, cancer, heart disease, fibromyalgia, or arthritis - learn healthy ways to live and be active. The workshop is led by two peer leaders and meets once a week for six weeks.
Participants will learn how to eat healthy and be active in new ways, communicate with family, friends, and their health care team, reduce stress and increase relaxation, address issues like depression and isolation, and receive support from other participants.
The workshop is open to adults of all ages with chronic conditions, as well as their family members and caregivers. Instructors: Emily Eckberg & Sharon Deirberger
This class is free! All participants will receive a copy of the book, "Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Conditions." This class is valued at $170 per person. In partnership with Juniper and Fairview. Free, registration required by calling 651-747-3860.


Art Discovery Fair

Saturday, November 2 | 10 AM – 3 PM | Discovery Center
Discover the perfect gift while submerging yourself into local displays of talent and skill as artists and crafters come together for one amazing fair right in your area! There will be a variety of artwork and crafts available for purchase including paintings, photography, woodworking, jewelry, pottery, and more. Live music will be performed during the event by the 2 Sisters and Jennifer Lane Ensemble. Bring home something special while discovering the creative and inspiring work of those in your community!


Church Basement Ladies

"Hark the Basement Ladies Sing" at the Ames Center in Burnsville

The Church Basement Ladies are back performing in the newly renovated (including roomier seating) Black Box Theater, at the Ames Center in Burnsville. This original musical is set in December 1960, and finds community members around a reel-reel tape recorder recording a special Christmas greeting for one of their boys serving overseas. If only the recording session could go as smoothly as planned! Sing along as Beverly bangs out Christmas carols on the old upright and enjoy some "Fa La La" fellowship. A buffet luncheon includes brown sugar glazed ham, hash brown casserole, glazed carrots, dinner rolls/butter, full soup and salad bar and a variety of dessert options. Registration and cancellation deadline is October 30. $79.
