Programs for the Kids

Mother Daughter Date Night

KidCreate Studio Art Clas

Thursday, May 9 | 6:30 – 8 PM | Discovery Center

Mother's Day is just around the corner. What better way to celebrate than creating masterpieces with your child? Prepare for an evening filled with fun! You and your child will follow easy step-by-step instructions as you create matching floral paintings. Each mother and daughter will create their own masterpiece on a real canvas board. Register by May 2. $30 per child (includes mother).

Summer youth recreation programs

Summer Youth Recreation Camps – Special Package Promo

Eight weeks of summer fun for your child! Campers play games, create arts and crafts, and participate in special events for each weekly theme. One week of camp is free when you sign your child up for all eight weeks!

Small World Camps for preschool ages 3 to 5 (must be potty trained)

Curious Critters Club (Ages 3 to 6)

Select Friday mornings | 9:30 – 11 AM | Discovery Center

Children participate in discussions, play games, watch DVDs, and create projects. Register one week prior to class. $7 per class.

"Lakes & Ponds" Story Time for Preschoolers

Wednesday, May 15 | 10:30 AM | Discovery Center

Join a librarian from the Oakdale Library for a special preschool story time! We will have fun talking, singing, reading, writing, and playing together.  We will focus on concepts such as counting, colors, sharing, emotions, patterns, and the alphabet. A simple craft will follow.  A free program recommended for developmental ages 0 to 5 and their grown-ups. Please call 651-747-3860 to reserve your spot! Free.

Summerfest 5K

Summerfest 5K

New Race Course in Oakdale Nature Preserve!

Saturday, June 22 | 7AM Check-in, 8 AM Start Time | Discovery Center
Get ready for the annual Summerfest Oakdale 5K with a brand new race course for 2019! This race is for runners and walkers of all abilities. The route starts and finishes at the Discovery Center, 4444 Hadley Ave. N. Entry fee includes a t-shirt, chip timer, postrace drinks and snacks, and chance for prizes! Register by June 1 for early pricing. $20.

Oakdale Nature Preserve Community Walk

Must be Oakdale Resident | Now through October 31 | Oakdale Nature Preserve

Walk your way to less stress, lower weight, better health, and great rewards! It’s easy! Oakdale residents of all ages can participate. Walk the 220 acre preserve as much as possible, with the ultimate goal of reaching a total of 200 miles to earn a $40 gift card from Target, Hy-Vee, Kwik Trip or Fleet Farm. Sign up with your ID (to verify your Oakdale residency) at the Oakdale Discovery Center before your first walk.


Activities for Adults


Friday, May 17, 8 AM - 4:30 PM | Oakdale Discovery Center& Nature Preserve

Join us for a day of discovery for adults! Explore nature through a variety of classes and activities including arts, recreation, and discussion/education. Enjoy just one class or stay all day.

Add a lunch option when registering for $10. Includes choice of sandwich and side made fresh by Lake Elmo Inn, pastry chef’s choice of mini dessert, and bottled water. Register by May 10.

Adult Road Trip: Historic Forestville and Mystery Cave

Wednesday, May 22, 7:30 AM - 4:30 PM | Departs from Gladstone Community Education Center Parking Lot (1945 Manton Street, Maplewood, 55109)
Venture to southern Minnesota for a day packed with history and geology. First stop is Historic Forestville, a restored 1800 village. During the 1850s-1860s, Forestville had 20 buildings and was a thriving community. Your guided walking tour begins at the visitor center and travels through the garden, kitchen, Meighen family house, offices, and the general store filled with original 19th century merchandise. Following a picnic lunch, it is off to do some exploring underground at Mystery Cave. Mystery Cave is the longest cave in Minnesota. Your guided tour includes the history and geology of the cave and you will see stalactites, stalagmites, flowstone, fossils and beautiful underground pools. Bring a light jacket or sweater, as the temperature in the cave is a constant 48 degrees. Wear sturdy shoes with non-skid soles. Register by May 14. $89.


Wetlands and Planting for Clean Water Workshop

Presented by East Metro Water Resource Education

Thursday, May 23, 6 - 7:30 PM | Discovery Center
This free workshop will teach you about “Planting for Clean Water” as well as what makes our wetlands so special and important. Learn about unique plants and animals found in wetlands, invasive species, and rules that affect what landowners can and cannot do with wetlands. Workshop will include a short walk outdoors to nearby wetlands, so please dress appropriately. Free.



Pickleball Lessons for Beginners

Tuesdays, May 7 to 28, 6 - 7 PM | Tanners Park Pickleball Courts (Tanners Park Road, south of 7th Street)
Pickleball is a great workout for all fitness levels. Learn the basics of the game! Equipment will be provided or bring your own. Ages 18 and up. Register by April 30. $25.

Adult Pickleball Drill Class

Tuesdays, June 4 to 25, 6 - 7 PM | Tanners Park Pickleball Courts (Tanners Park Road, south of 7th Street)

Build on what was learned at the Beginner Pickleball class. Get to practice various pickleball shots and strategies under guided supervision. Equipment will be provided or bring your own. Ages 18 and up. Register by May 31. $25.
