Family Fun Activities

Makin' Maple Syrup

Saturday, March 9 | 1 - 3 PM | Discovery Center

Learn where maple syrup comes from and how to make it! Head out into the Oakdale Nature Preserve, tap a tree, and start the maple syrup process. Build your own ice cream sundaes will be included for all participants. All ages welcomed! Please dress for the weather. *Participants under 12 need to be accompanied by an adult. $5. Register by March 4.

Bring the family to Tartan Arena for an afternoon of free ice skating and hot chocolate! Skates are not provided. No registration needed; meet inside arena.

Snowshoe in the Oakdale Nature Preserve

Oakdale Nature Preserve Snowshoe Rental
Rates are $5 per person for a two hour rental during Discovery Center hours. Youth and adult sizes available. Call 651-747-3860 for more information.

Snow Sculpture Contest

Submit your snow sculpture now through March 29 | Oakdale Residents (Any address in Oakdale, MN 55128)

Winner receives a $100 Marcus Theaters Gift Card! Calling all creative Oakdale residents. Do you have what it takes to create the best snow sculpture in town? If so, head outside any time after a snowfall, and start constructing your masterpiece. All sculptures are judged on appearance, relative to the season’s theme. This year’s theme is “Superhero Snow Sculpture.”

"Moose" Storytime for Preschoolers

Wednesday, March 20 | 10:30 AM | Discovery Center

Join a librarian from the Oakdale Library for a special preschool story time! We will have fun talking, singing, reading, writing, and playing together. We will focus on concepts such as counting, colors, sharing, emotions, patterns, and the alphabet. A simple craft will follow. A free program recommended for developmental ages 0 to 5 and their grown-ups. Free. Please call 651-747-3860 to reserve your spot!

Mystery Egg Hunt (Ages up to 10 years)

Saturday, April 20 | 9 – 11 AM | Discovery Center

The clever Easter Bunny has hidden eggs along the trails of the Oakdale Nature Preserve. We need kids to help find one and then exchange it for a very special surprise! The Easter Bunny also hides two golden eggs redeemable for extra special surprises! After hunting for eggs, enjoy games, refreshments, crafts, face painting, petting zoo, and great prizes! Don't miss this very popular event! $12 per child, parents attend free! Register by April 12.

Indoor Market

Saturday, March 16 | 9 AM – 1 PM | Discovery Center

Over 20 local vendors offering a unique variety of items including baked goods, jams, cheeses, meats, canned goods, sweets, salsas, strudels, jewelry, micro greens, and much more! Check out the Community Booths to see what is happening locally, and enter your name for a chance to win the Vendors Variety Gift Basket. This is the vendors' way of saying thank you for supporting the community and local businesses.

ViniYoga

Discovery Center

ViniYoga is a therapeutic style of yoga which adapts to the needs of each student. Classes will include a blend of gentle yoga postures, breathing, and simple meditations to help the body build strength and flexibility while remaining steady and comfortable. Beginners are welcome as are those who have practiced yoga before and all students are encouraged to move at their own pace. Please wear comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat.
