Accessible Birding

Saturday, October 11, 2025 | 9:30 to 10:30 AM | Meet outside Discovery Center

Birding is an activity that everyone can enjoy. Join naturalists from Dodge Nature Center as they help explore the ways that birding has become more accessible. We will look at tools and tricks that can help make birding more user friendly. All ages and abilities are welcome, the program will be designed to be wheelchair accessible. Free. Register online before the deadline on October 9.

Pumpkin Carvings

Pumpkin Carving Contest

October 19 to 22 | Drop off at Discovery Center during open hours

Calling all pumpkin carvers! The Pumpkin Carving Contest is open to families or individuals of all ages/skill levels. All entries must be family friendly. The pumpkins will be displayed at the Flashlight Pumpkin Hunt on Thursday, October 23 and attendees will vote for the winners. Prizes will be awarded to winners in each of three categories; Best, Spookiest, and Bumpkin Pumpkin (entry by ages 12 and under).

Celebrate Día de Los Muertos with Sugar Skulls

Saturday, November 1, 2025 | 11 AM to 1 PM | Discovery Center

This special all-ages bilingual workshop celebrates Día de los Muertos, a time when Latino generations honor their heritage and pay tribute to Mexican culture. Decorate your own traditional sugar skulls to remember and celebrate a beloved family member. All cultures and skill levels are welcome. $10 per person Register online before the deadline on October 25.

Flashlight Pumpkin Hunt

Thursday, October 23, 2025 | 6:30 to 8 PM | Discovery Center

Search for pumpkins under the stars in the Oakdale Nature Preserve! After the hunt enjoy chilling refreshments, family DJ, bonfire, spooky entertainment and ghoulish games. Costumes are optional; don’t forget your flashlight! $12 per child (12 and under, includes glow necklace); parents attend free. Register online before the deadline October 16 or full.

Library Story Time "Not-so-Spooky Monsters"

Wednesday, October 29, 2025 | 10:30 AM | Discovery Center

Have fun talking, singing, reading, writing, and playing together with a Washington County Youth Librarian. Focus on concepts such as counting, colors, sharing, emotions, patterns, and the alphabet. A simple craft will follow. A free program recommended for developmental ages 0 to 5 and their grown-ups.

ACTIVITIES FOR ADULTS

Astro and Sound Sessions

Select Dates | 6:30 to 7:45 PM | Discovery Center

Wellness practitioner Kali Higgins leads several sound healing and vibrational sound therapy sessions to support people in shifting their consciousness to allow the mind to go to deeper states of meditation and relaxation. Each session will use various instruments and sounds in harmony with the Full Moon to expand participants’ intentions of the practice. Session includes time to discuss and connect with the instructor about the theme, gentle breathwork and settling in, and 50 minutes of sound healing. Bring any items to support a comfortable practice such as a mat, blanket, pillows, zero-gravity chair, eye mask/covering, journal and water bottle. More info about programs on registration site. $36 per class (ages 18 and up).

Intro to Nordic Walking

Nordic walking uses specially-designed poles to enhance walking, work the upper and lower body, burn more calories, and improve posture and gait. Poles are provided. $20 per person (ages 18 and up). Registration deadline is October 2.

Cheerful Hearts Painting Class "Scaredy Kitten" 

Friday, October 31, 2025 | 11 AM to 2 PM | Discovery Center

All supplies are provided with step-by-step instructions from Sandy Danus to create a finished 11-by-14 canvas painting. $35 per adult (ages 18 and up). Registration deadline is one week prior to class.

MORNING YOGA | TUESDAYS | 9:30 to 10:30 AM 

Rise and shine with intention. Experience a customizable and dynamic yoga practice designed to build strength, develop balance, and increase mobility and mindfulness. This all-levels class encourages participants to move at their own pace to explore shapes in a safe and sustainable way that will support a healthy range of motion and a more fulfilling practice experience.

TWILIGHT YOGA | THURSDAYS | 6 to 7 PM

Wind down your day in the glow of twinkling lights.  Explore a gentler flow designed to melt away tension with mindful movements to increase strength, balance, flexibility and relaxation in a sustainable way. This all-levels class will illuminate your intentions and calm your nervous system with minimal weight-bearing on the wrists to prepare you for a good night sleep.

•    Session 1 | 6 weeks | $104 | October 30, November 6, 13, 20, December 4, 11 (no class 11/27)    


Registration deadline is one week prior to start of session. Drop-in for a single class is $20 if space is available (please arrive at least ten minutes before class begins, cash/check only on weeknights).

Oakdale Wellness 50+

Oakdale Wellness 50+ is a volunteer initiative making Oakdale and Washington County healthier by offering health-focused activities for persons 50 and over that lead to measurably improved wellness. 

Oakdale Wellness 50+ is supported by Washington County, the City of Oakdale, and the Vital Aging Network (VAN).

WALKS AT THE OAKDALE NATURE PRESERVE | Wednesdays at 9 AM | No registration is necessary to join these weekly walks. Meet in front of the Discovery Center.

PLAY MAHJONGG | Mondays at 1 PM (no Mahjongg 10/27) | Join us to play Mahjongg. No sign up needed.

UPCYCLED HOLIDAY CARDS AND TAGS | Thursday, October 16 | 10 AM to 12 PM | Learn to create like-new cards and gift tags. Bring scissors and straight-edge paper cutter, if available. Register online or by calling 651-747-3860.
