Snow Sculpture Contest

Submit your snow sculpture through March 31, 2025

Calling all creative Oakdale residents. Do you have what it takes to create the best snow sculpture in Oakdale? If so, head outside any time after a snowfall, and start constructing your masterpiece. All sculptures are judged on appearance, relative to the season’s theme.  

This year’s theme is “Favorite Sport.”

Snowshoe Rental

Rentals available daily pending snow conditions, during building hours | Discovery Center
 
Take your family and friends snowshoeing in the 200 acres of the Oakdale Nature Preserve. Watch for animal tracks, deer, fox, and birds, even snowshoe angels! Sizes available for both children and adults. $6, tax included, per person for a two hour rental.  Cash or check only on weekends.

Community Walk

April 1 to October 31, 2025 | During Park Hours | Oakdale Nature Preserve

Walk your way to less stress, lower weight, better health, and great rewards! It’s easy! Register online before your first walk. Must be an Oakdale resident to participate. After enrolling, submit completed mileage forms inside the Discovery Center (or in the outdoor drop box) on the same dates as your walks in the Oakdale Nature Preserve. Mileage walked outside of the Oakdale Nature Preserve and forms submitted late will not qualify. Recreation staff will track all qualifying walked mileage up to 150 miles. Verifying Oakdale Residency (using a photo id) will be required before reward is claimed.

This class is designed for first time players but is challenging enough for more competitive play.

Registration deadline is March 20. $69 per child.

"Friendship" Library Story Time

Wednesday, March 26 | 10:30 AM | Discovery Center

A Washington County Youth Librarian will be visiting the Discovery Center for a series of special preschool story times!

We’ll have fun talking, singing, reading, writing, and playing together. We will focus on concepts such as counting, colors, sharing, emotions, patterns, and the alphabet. A simple craft will follow.

A free program recommended for developmental ages 0 to 5 and their grown-ups.

ACTIVITIES FOR ADULTS

Adult Yoga

Join yoga teacher, trainer and Pilates instructor Jen Vail for all-levels yoga. Registration deadline is one week prior to start of program. Drop-in for single class within a session is $20 if space is available.

Morning Yoga Session 2: Tuesdays, 9:30 to 10:30 AM | April 1 to 29 | 5 weeks | $89

Rise and shine with intention. Experience a customizable and dynamic yoga practice designed to build strength, develop balance, and increase mobility and mindfulness. This all-levels class encourages participants to move at their own pace to explore shapes in a safe and sustainable way that will support a healthy range of motion and a more fulfilling practice experience.  Please bring your own mat. 

Twilight Yoga Session 2: Thursdays, 6 to 7 PM | April 3 to May 1 | 5 weeks | $89

Wind down your day in the glow of twinkling lights.  Explore a gentler flow designed to melt away tension with mindful movements to increase strength, balance, flexibility and relaxation in a sustainable way. This all-levels class will illuminate your intentions and calm your nervous system with minimal weight-bearing on the wrists to prepare you for a good night sleep. Please bring your own mat. 

POP-UP Spring Equinox Yoga + Meditation + Journaling Mini Retreat: Thursday, March 20 | 6:30 to 8 PM | $35   

Explore a variety of yoga, meditation/yoga nidra, and journaling to cultivate a deeper sense of balance, harmony and well-being to bloom during this seasonal shift. Space is limited and pre-registration is required to attend.

POP UP Full Body Foam Rolling: A Self-Healing Workshop: Sunday, April 6 | 11 AM to 12:15 PM | $30

Alleviate tension, reduce pain, promote recovery and improve mobility. This all-levels workshop uses self-myofascial techniques and a foam roller to melt away stress and reduce muscle soreness in chronically tight areas of the body. Space is limited and pre-registration is required to attend. Please bring a yoga mat and we will provide foam rollers to use.

Oakdale Wellness 50+

Oakdale Wellness 50+ is a volunteer initiative making Oakdale and Washington County healthier by offering health-focused activities for persons 50 and over that lead to measurably improved wellness. 

Oakdale Wellness 50+ is supported by Washington County, the City of Oakdale, and the Vital Aging Network (VAN).

WALKS AT THE OAKDALE NATURE PRESERVE | Wednesdays at 10 AM through March, (9 AM after April 1) | No registration is necessary to join these weekly walks. Meet in front of the Discovery Center. 

ESSENTRICS CLASSICAL STRETCH | Thursdays, now through March 27 | 10 to 11 AM | Discovery Center | Join us for a free, weekly drop-in session.  We will stretch and strengthen to two 22-minute DVD’s by Miranda Esmonde-White.  Her program is designed to increase flexibility, loosen joints, strengthen and stretch with relaxing, gentle movements.  Bring a map to stand on.  No registration.

WELLNESS BOOK CLUB: Moving on Doesn't Mean Letting Go by Gina Moffa | Tuesday, March 25 | 6:30 PM | Oakdale Library | Register by emailing oakdalewellness50new@gmail.com. 

WALK AND LEARN ABOUT SAFETY | Wednesday, April 2 | 9 to 11 AM | Discovery Center | The Oakdale Police Department will join the Wellness Wednesday Walk for a community-focused crime prevention walk and discussion. This is a unique opportunity for participants to interact with law enforcement, ask questions about crime prevention, and learn about safety strategies relevant to the City of Oakdale. Police personnel will also share insights into the department’s initiatives while promoting wellness. Social time for treats after.

SAFETY AT HOME: REBUILDING TOGETHER MN PROGRAMS WORKSHOP | Friday, April 4 | 10 to 11 AM | Discovery Center | Free | Attend to learn more about Rebuilding Together Minnesota programs. Application forms will be available at workshop. Sponsored by:  Oakdale Wellness 50+ & Age Friendly Task Team

  • Safe at Home Project (Qualified seniors: minimum age 65, income limitations, live in their single-family home) Eligible homeowners can receive no cost modifications to assist with accessibility/home safety (including accessible ramp, grab bars, railings, smoke & carbon monoxide detectors, etc.) Submit application form for approval. 
  • Home Maintenance Project (Qualified seniors: older adults home modifications, minimum Age 62) Up to $5,000 no cost maintenance items for their project (including installation)
