FAMILY FUN ACTIVITIES

Sundae Bingo

Saturday, January 14 | 1 to 3 PM | Discovery Center

What could be better than ice cream sundaes and two hours of bingo!? Join us for this fun-filled Sunday afternoon. Make your own ice cream sundae while shouting out BINGO! Prizes are awarded to winners of every game; every participant eligible for two game winning prizes. All participants will be eligible for the grand prize raffle drawing at the end of the event (must be present to win the raffle). All ages welcome! $10 per player. Registration deadline is January 7.

Snowshoe Rental

Rentals available daily pending snow conditions, during building hours | Discovery Center

Take your family and friends snowshoeing in the 200 acres of the Oakdale Nature Preserve. Watch for animal tracks, deer, fox, and birds, even snowshoe angels! Sizes available for both children and adults. $6, tax included, per person for a two hour rental. Cash or check only on weekends.

Snow Sculpture Contest

Oakdale residents submit your snow sculpture now through March 31, 2024 | Any address in Oakdale, MN 55128

Calling all creative Oakdale residents. Do you have what it takes to create the best snow sculpture in Oakdale? If so, head outside any time after a snowfall, and start constructing your masterpiece. All sculptures are judged on appearance, relative to the season’s theme.

This year’s theme is “Snow Animals”

Please submit photo entries by March 31. Winning sculpture will receive a themed winter prize basket!

Library Story Time | "Shapes"

Wednesday, January 31 | 10:30 AM | Discovery Center

A Washington County Youth Librarian will be visiting for a special preschool story time! We’ll have fun talking, singing, reading, writing, and playing together. We will focus on concepts such as counting, colors, sharing, emotions, patterns, and the alphabet. A simple craft will follow. A free program recommended for developmental ages 0 to 5 and their grown-ups.

ACTIVITIES FOR ADULTS

Adult Yoga

Oakdale welcomes Jen Vail, registered yoga teacher and trainer and certified Pilates instructor, to the Discovery Center! Jen was most recently the director and founder of YogaFresh in Woodbury, MN from 2007-2023. Her unique offerings have different focus areas and are accessible for all experience levels. She strives to create a non-judgmental, fun and safe environment to explore the benefits of yoga, barre and Pilates. Learn more at http://www.jenvail.com/.

Registration deadline is one week prior to class/session start.

Drop-in for a single class is $20 if space is available (cash or check only for evening/weekend classes). Please arrive at least ten minutes prior to class when dropping in.

Intro to Yoga Workshop | Saturday, January 6 | 1 to 2:30 PM | $20

Are you ready to roll out your mat for the first time?

Learn the origins of yoga and begin to explore foundational shapes with accessible options to create comfort and accessibility to skillfully integrate the practice of yoga into your life. We will experience a variety of styles and poses so you can leave with a greater understanding of yoga breathing techniques, yoga class etiquette and how to pick the right class for you.

Your guide, Jen Vail has been teaching yoga for over 25 years and has designed this workshop to help you feel more confident and prepared to attend any beginner friendly or all level class. The most common reflection from her students after attending this workshop is that they simply wish they would have started practicing yoga sooner.

Morning Yoga | Tuesdays| 9:30 to 10:30 AM | $99

6 week session, January 2 to February 6

Rise and shine with intention. Experience a customizable and dynamic yoga practice designed to build strength, develop balance, and increase mobility and mindfulness. This all-levels class encourages participants to move at their own pace to explore shapes in a safe and sustainable way that will support a healthy range of motion and a more fulfilling practice experience.

Twilight Yoga | Thursdays | 6 to 7 PM | $99

6 week session, January 4 to February 8

Wind down your day in the glow of twinkling lights. Explore a gentler flow designed to melt away tension with mindful movements to increase strength, balance, flexibility and relaxation in a sustainable way. This all-levels class will illuminate your intentions and calm your nervous system with minimal weight-bearing on the wrists to prepare you for a good night sleep.

Roll and Release: Foam Rolling

4 Week Session | Tuesdays, January 16 to February 6 | 10:45 to 11:45 ($67)

Pop Up Class | Saturday, January 6 | 3 to 4 PM ($20)

Take the next step in your wellness journey or complement an existing movement routine with foam rolling and gentle stretches. This all-levels class uses self-myofascial techniques to increase your overall mobility and flexibility to reduce muscle tension and melt away stress. Feel better faster and reduce muscle soreness as we work through chronically tight areas of the body without the spa-like price tag of a deep-tissue massage. Bring your yoga mat and we provide the foam rollers to use during class.
