Design Progress
This summer, the new Public Works facility design advanced to 80-percent completion. Renderings of the new facility design are available on the project website. The 70,000-square foot facility will house these Public Works divisions serving residents:
- Forestry and Environmental Services
- Parks
- Streets and Fleet
- Utilities
Design Highlights
The new facility will include a convenient yard waste drop-off area for residents. This will be accessible off 32nd Street N and will be separate from Public Works operations for resident safety.
One project goal is to build an energy-efficient facility to reduce long-term operating costs. Some examples of how this is being accomplished include using high-efficiency heating and cooling equipment, LED lights throughout the facility, and maximizing daylight into the work areas.
Next Steps
The project team is now working with 3M and the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency on work to clean the site prior to the City starting facility project work. Once the details of this work and schedule are finalized, the City will host a Community Open House where detailed information on the project work and new facility will be provided.
Work is still expected to begin in early 2024.
