Movies in the Park

Select Fridays | Movies begin at dusk | Walton Park
 
Round up the kids, some lawn chairs or a blanket, and enjoy a night under the stars as your favorite movie plays on the big screen at the band shell. Concessions and movie-themed activities begin at 7 PM. Sponsored by the Oakdale Police and Recreation Departments.

Amped Up Entertainment

Select Thursdays | 10 AM | Discovery Center Amphitheater

Are you looking for free summer programs for your children, grandchildren or even yourself? Then the Discovery Center Amphitheater is the place to be! On select Thursday mornings, the amphitheater will play host to a variety of programs geared to all ages.  (In the event of inclement weather, the program will be moved into the Discovery Center).

Library Storytime

Select Wednesdays | 10:30 AM | Discovery Center

A Washington County Youth Librarian will be visiting for a series of special preschool story times! We’ll have fun talking, singing, reading, writing, and playing together. We will focus on concepts such as counting, colors, sharing, emotions, patterns, and the alphabet. A simple craft will follow. A free program recommended for developmental ages 0 to 5 and their grown-ups.

ITS Truck

This summer, the ITS (In The Street) Truck will find its way to a park near you, bringing along fun new games, a super sound system and Nintendo Wii gaming device! There’s a different theme each week, so come outside and join the Oakdale Recreation staff because you know ITS going to be a blast all summer long! No registration required! Free.

Pop Up Parks

Pop in this summer at one of our FREE Pop-Up Parks! Pop Up Parks is a program for kids to enjoy access to recreation programming in their own neighborhoods. Oakdale Recreation staff will be “popping” in to your neighborhood with games, activities, sports equipment, special events, arts and crafts, and more. Look for the Pop-Up Park flag! FULL! Horseback Riding at Bunker Park Stable (Ages 8 to 16)

Wednesday, August 3 or Tuesday, August 16 | 10 AM to 2:30 PM | Depart and Return at Discovery Center

Travel out to Bunker Park Stable, a premier horseback riding facility, right in our Minnesota backyard. Come along as we learn and go for a ride with the horses that call Bunker Park their home. Please dress appropriately for this adventure (no shorts, no sandals) and bring a nut-free bagged lunch. Trip includes horseback ride, barn tour, horse feeding, opportunity to groom the horses, chaperone, and transportation. Registration is full, please join the waitlist if interested in the trip. $70 per trip.

Curious Critters Club (Ages 3 to 6)

Preschoolers discuss a nature topic, play themed games, watch videos and create crafts centered on the subject. Children enjoy a snack that is provided during the class. Please dress kids for the weather; Curious Critters like to go on adventures outside! Deadline to register is one week prior to class. $8 per class.

KidCreate Studio: Among Us (Ages 5 to 12)

Among Us fans, we’re getting all our crewmates together to create some out-of-this-world art. We’ll sculpt, paint, draw, and more as we create projects that are all inspired by this popular game. Yoga

Discovery Center

Develop a strong and flexible spine, increase comfort and mobility in your joints, and build strength and balance in a safe way in this all-levels yoga class. Classes focus on each student's own internal experience rather than achieving an external appearance. Every class will include movement and guided breathing woven together. Cheerful Hearts Painting Classes

Discovery Center

Join local artist Sandy Danus of Cheerful Hearts Studio as she leads you through a fun and inviting, acrylic paint class. Learn a new skill and have a great time! All supplies are included and our cheerful, step by step instruction is easy to follow, even if you have never picked up a paint brush before. Come away with your own beautiful finished canvas creation that you can be proud of. Deadline to register is one week prior to class.

Library Watercolor Painting Class

Tuesday, August 16 | 2 to 4 PM | Discovery Center

Get crafty and learn something new in this free Let's Make Stuff! Class. Each participant will create their own stunning landscape painting using watercolor painting techniques. Using photographs, we will first learn how to edit and compose our image, create a basic sketch and create a sense of depth in our landscape. Let's Make Stuff is a creative class for adults.
 
Class size is limited so registration is required. Register online at www.washcolib.org/446/Oakdale-Library or call the Oakdale Library at 651-730-0504. Before registering, please make sure you can attend in person. If you can't make it, please cancel your registration as soon as possible in order to give someone on the waiting list the chance to attend the class.

Forest Therapy Walks 

Saturdays, July 30, August 6 or 20 | 10 AM to 12 PM | Meet at Discovery Center Firepit
 
Forest Therapy, or “forest bathing,” is a research-based framework for supporting healing and wellness through immersion in forests and other natural environments. Studies have demonstrated a wide array of health benefits, especially in the cardiovascular and immune systems, and for stabilizing and improving mood and cognition. Forest therapy walks are slow-paced and are leisurely guided through nature by certified forest therapy guides. $20 per class (50% discount for frontline workers).
