Community Walk

April 1 through October 31 | During Park Hours | Oakdale Nature Preserve
 
Earn rewards for walking! Residents of Oakdale will have the opportunity to explore and walk the 200 acre nature preserve and record their miles. Stop by the Discovery Center after every walk and Oakdale Recreation will record and track your miles throughout the season. The program is for Oakdale Residents only. ID will be required for proof of residency. Before your first walk, stop in the Discovery Center to register. Walkers write down their miles each day they visit, and turn in their mileage using either the indoor or outdoor drop boxes at the Discovery Center. Reach the ultimate goal of walking 150 miles total to earn a $25 gift card. Choose either Target, Hy-Vee, or Kwik Trip for a gift card.

• 150 miles walked | $25 gift card
• 100 miles walked | $10 gift card and 100 Mile Club t-shirt

Oakdale Nature Preserve Hikes: Bird Walk

Saturday, April 23 | 8 to 9:30 AM | Discovery Center
 
The preserve is in an incredible place for bird watching. This hike is for beginner birders, experienced, and curious alike. We will discuss birding basics and the importance of the preserve for migrating birds. This hike will stay on paved trails. Register before the deadline on April 16. $10.

Park Clean Up Week 

April 25 through May 1 | Choose your desired City of Oakdale park to clean up | Pick up gifts and trash bags at the Discovery Center

Help rid our City of Oakdale parks of the debris and clutter that has accumulated over the months by volunteering during Park Clean Up Week! Businesses, scout groups, schools, daycare centers and civic groups are encouraged to participate. Parks may be cleaned anytime during park clean up week. 
 
Garbage bags are provided and each participant will receive a complimentary thank you gift. To volunteer, please call Oakdale Recreation at 651-747-3860.

Curious Critters Club (Ages 3 to 6)

Select Friday mornings | 9:30 to 11 AM | Discovery Center

Preschoolers discuss a nature topic, play themed games, watch videos and create crafts centered on the subject. Children enjoy a snack that is provided during the class. Please dress kids for the weather; Curious Critters like to go on adventures outside! Deadline to register is one week prior to class. $8 per class.

KidCreate Art Class: Easter Peep Party (Ages 18 months to 6 years)

Tuesday, April 12 | 9:30 to 10:30 AM | Discovery Center

Hop on over to class to create an Easter themed art project. You and your child will get to play with some clay as you create a larger than life sculpture of a marshmallow Peep®. Come and create right along with your child! Children must be accompanied by a caregiver. Register before the extended deadline on April 7. $21 per child.

Library Story Time: The World of Eric Carle

A Washington County Youth Librarian will be visiting for a series of special preschool story times! We’ll have fun talking, singing, reading, writing, and playing together. We will focus on concepts such as counting, colors, sharing, emotions, patterns, and the alphabet. A simple craft will follow. A free program recommended for developmental ages 0 to 5 and their grown-ups.

Painting Class | Northern Lights on Canvas

Join local artist Sandy Danus of Cheerful Hearts Studio as she leads you through a fun and inviting, acrylic paint class. Learn a new skill and have a great time! All supplies are included and our cheerful, step by step instruction is easy to follow, even if you have never picked up a paint brush before. Forest Therapy Walks

Saturday, April 16 | 10 AM to 12 PM | Meet at Discovery Center Firepit
 
Forest Therapy, or “forest bathing,” is a research-based framework for supporting healing and wellness through immersion in forests and other natural environments. Studies have demonstrated a wide array of health benefits, especially in the cardiovascular and immune systems, and for stabilizing and improving mood and cognition. Forest therapy walks are slow-paced and are leisurely guided through nature by certified forest therapy guides. Attend in-person or virtually. $20 per class (50% discount for frontline workers).

Adult Pickleball Beginner Lessons

Pickleball is a great workout for all fitness levels. Come learn the basics of the game. Equipment will be provided or bring your own. Please indicate on registration form if equipment is needed. This activity is full, but you can still register for the June session. $30.
