Snowshoe in the Oakdale Nature Preserve

Family Moonlight Snowshoe & Bonfire
Friday, January 10 | 6 – 8:30 PM | Discovery Center
 
Enjoy a leisurely snowshoe walk following a luminary lit trail through the Oakdale Nature Preserve. Then warm up by the bonfire for hot dogs, chips, s'mores, and hot chocolate. The luminary lit trail will close at 8:30 PM.
Fee includes snowshoes, but you can also bring your own. Just let us know when you register whether you will need snowshoes, so we can save you a pair. Bring a headlamp if desired, and dress in layers with sturdy boots. Register by January 3. $25.

Snow Sculpture Contest

Submit your snow sculpture now through March 31 | Oakdale Residents (Any address in Oakdale, MN 55128)

Winner receives a $100 Marcus Theaters Gift Card! Calling all creative Oakdale residents. Do you have what it takes to create the best snow sculpture in town? If so, head outside any time after a snowfall, and start constructing your masterpiece. All sculptures are judged on appearance, relative to the season’s theme. This year’s theme is “Everything Disney.”

Indoor Youth Tennis Lessons (Ages 4 to 12)

Tuesdays, January 7 through February 11| Ages 4 to 7 at 6 – 6:45 PM | Ages 8 to 12 at 7 – 7:45 PM  |  Discovery Center
 
Learn basic fundamentals of tennis in this fun class! Skills taught include grip, stance, swing, and more in a fun and safe learning environment. We use USTA approved tennis equipment designed for youth tennis. If you have your own racquet, please bring it along each week. Oakdale Recreation has a few to loan each night. Instructor: Dan Stumpf is North High School girl's tennis coach and Hill Murray boy's. Register by December 31. $40.

Preschooler Story Time: Winter Wonderland

Wednesday, January 15 | 10:30 AM | Discovery Center

A librarian from the Oakdale Library will be visiting the Discovery Center for a special preschool story time! We will have fun talking, singing, reading, writing, and playing together.  We will focus on concepts such as counting, colors, sharing, emotions, patterns, and the alphabet. A simple craft will follow.  A free program recommended for developmental ages 0 to 5 and their grown-ups. Free. Please call 651-747-3860 to reserve your spot!

Winter Wanderland

Come wander with wellness. Here's an opportunity to keep moving in the winter months! Your Wellness 50+ team invites you to a send-off party to find walking partners, indoor and outdoor places to walk, tips on clothing and footwear. Team member Susan will demonstrate exercises for balance and warm-ups. Snowshoe demos will be offered. Of course there will be healthy treats, maybe even hot chocolate! All ages and neighborhoods are welcome. Free.

Valentine's Day Snowshoe, Sip and Sample (Ages 21+)

Friday, February 14 | 7 – 10 PM | Discovery Center

Celebrate Valentine's Day with a night of snowshoeing along a candlelit luminary trail, a vintage game room, prizes, music, food, beer and wine samples! Plenty of chocolate too. This event is great for friends, couples, or even if you are not a Hallmark Holiday supporter! Enjoy this community event that is always a seasonal favorite. Includes snowshoes, or bring your own.
 
Join us for an evening that includes:

• Snowshoeing along luminary lit trails
• Appetizer sampling and food demonstration from Hy-Vee, including chocolate dipped strawberries
• Locally crafted beer samples
• Wine samples and champagne selected by local experts at Bright Wines
• Vintage Game Room
• Prize drawings every 30 minutes
