Seasonal Maintenance

We are hiring for full-time, seasonal maintenance staff to assist our full-time professional Public Works team for the spring through fall months in the maintenance and repair of city streets, parks, and infrastructure. 

  • Forestry – Preserve and enhance city natural areas such as lakes, ponds, wooded areas and prairies
  • Parks – Mow grass, maintain facilities and equipment, prepare athletic fields for play
  • Streets – All things streets: repairs, crack sealing, street sweeping, signage
  • Utilities – Water system and storage, sanitary systems, hydrants

Position Requirements: 

  • 18 years of age
  • Class D Driver’s License with acceptable driving record and Minnesota driving privileges
  • Able to work in a team and independently
  • Self-sufficient, yet willing to ask questions
  • Dependable

Compensation: $16-$18 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications

Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7 AM to 3:30 PM; Anticipated May to October
Due to the nature of our activities, we cannot accommodate extensive vacation requests, so please do not apply if you will be requesting more than five total vacation days during the season.

  • Perform street, sign and storm water system activities
  • Traffic control and flagging in conjunction with street maintenance work
  • Use of hand tools, such as shovels, lutes, brooms, and rakes
  • Operate small equipment, such as leaf blowers and plate compactors
  • Driving pick-up trucks with trailers
  • Being able to read and understand manuals
  • Cleaning and maintaining the shop and vehicles
  • Able to perform manual and semi-skilled labor in a safe manner


  • Forestry
  • Maintaining annual, perennial and shrub plant material
  • Horticulture
  • Watering, weed control, trimming, perennial cutbacks
  • Irrigation
  • Plant removal/bed renovations and new plantings


  • Assist in maintenance of the City's systems including gate valves and hydrants
  • Mow grass around utility facilities
  • Exercise gate valves and flush hydrants
  • Perform other duties to assist full-time personnel
  • Data entry via laptop or iPad regarding maintenance completed
