Youth Scholarship

What is a program scholarship?

Oakdale Recreation offers financial assistance through discounted fees to Oakdale residents who have financial limitations and want to participate in youth recreation programs and activities. Eligibility is determined by completing an application and supplying the correct documentation.


What programs can I use it for?

Scholarships may be used for, but are not limited to, the following programs: Summer Mini Camps, Small World Camps, Pee Wee T-Ball, Tennis Lessons, and more. There may be some programs where scholarships cannot be used, such as those that are filled to capacity at the time an application is received.  


Payment Information

Applicants must pay one-third of the full cost of a program or activity. Payment must be included with application to be accepted. Payment types accepted: Cash, check or credit card. 


Requirements

This scholarship program is available to families with school age children (17 years or younger) who reside in the City of Oakdale and qualify for the free or reduced school lunch program under the guidelines developed by Independent School District 622 (ISD 622). Documentation needed for the scholarship application is a copy of your current “Free or Reduced Lunch Program" eligibility notification letter from ISD 622 Food Service Department.


What are the steps to apply?

  1. Print the Oakdale Recreation Youth Scholarship Application (PDF).
  2. Complete the scholarship application providing all the information required.
  3. Submit your completed scholarship application, eligibility documentation, program registration form and payment to:

  1. Individuals applying for a scholarship must be 17 years of age or younger and reside in the City of Oakdale.
  2. To qualify for assistance, families with school age children must qualify for the ISD 622 free or reduced school lunch program and provide a copy of their acceptance. Families with only preschool age children need only express the need for assistance in order to participate.
  3. Scholarships will be awarded on first come first serve basis.
  4. Scholarship recipients may register for only one activity per season. This will allow everyone an equal opportunity to participate in the recreation programs.
  5. There is no limit to the number of scholarships any individual or family can receive per year. However, Oakdale Recreation does reserve the right to limit scholarships for those programs with limited registration.
  6. A scholarship will provide a 2/3 reduction in the price, with the participant paying 1/3 of the program fee to Oakdale Recreation for each program. No other discount will apply. The refund policy would remain in effect with no refunds after the start of the activity, and a $5 service fee charged for the cancellation prior to the start of the activity.
  7. Scholarship applicants must fill out a scholarship application form and return it to the Oakdale Recreation Department office along with their program registration and program fee due (1/3 of the set fee).
  8. If you desire to write a thank you note for a scholarship, the note may be directed to the mayor and City Council, 1584 Hadley Avenue N., Oakdale, MN 55128.

How do I show that I qualify for free/reduced lunches?

Eligibility notification letters that verify your child participates in the “Free or Reduced Lunch Program” can be requested by calling School District 622 Nutrition Services Department at 651-748-7530.


Will my submitted information be kept confidential?

All information submitted for the purposes of eligibility determination into the fee assistance program is considered confidential and is not shared with the staff working in the programs.


When can I apply?

Applications will be accepted and processed during each Oakdale Recreation season after the season’s brochure has been distributed.


How long can I use the scholarship?

Scholarships awarded are good for one Oakdale Recreation program/activity per season as defined by Oakdale Recreation. A new application is required each season.
