Annual Tree Giveaway set for April 27

In 1975, Oakdale resident and tree lover, Peter Graske, held the first tree giveaway in the city.  Since that time, trees have been given to Oakdale residents every April, in conjunction with Arbor Day.  Oakdale gives away large bare root and container trees.  This year's varieties are: Norway Spruce, Tawara Asian Pear, European Mountain Ash, and Northern Catalpa. Information on height and spread of the trees can be found on the Arbor Day Tree Giveaway flyer (PDF).

At 9 AM on the 27th:

  • Come to the picnic shelter at Walton Park, located at 15th Street and Hadley Avenue, west of City Hall, to get your number. One per household, please.
  • Present a photo ID showing your address in Oakdale.
  • At 10 AM, the City Council will hand out trees to the 200 ticket holders, following a brief ceremony.
  • All attendees will be given a seedling as well
  • Master Gardeners will be on hand to answer all your tree planting and gardening questions!
