The Oakdale Fire Explorers has been around since 1995. The explorer program is made up of young adults between ages of 14 to 20 who are interested in exploring a career in the Fire or EMS Industry. The program has up to 15 members at a time. They conduct their own fundraising to cover the costs of operating the organization.
Training & Education
The explorers meet at least twice a month to conduct training. The training consists of a wide variety of topics about Fire Fighting and Emergency Medical Services. The core values of the program include education, leadership, responsibility and teamwork. They learn the basic fundamental skills of the entry level Fire Fighter/Emergency Medical Technician.
As an explorer, you will train to compete in at least one competition a year with other explorer posts from the state of Minnesota. They also participate in the training with the Oakdale Fire Department to help learn the basic operations. The explorers participate in other community events such as Fire Prevention Week. The program is lead by adult advisors that are members of the Oakdale Fire Department who volunteer their time to assist the youth in exploring a career in Fire and EMS.
